The Hmong American Center (HAC) was organized as a non-profit 501 (c) (3), tax-exempt organization in 1984 to assist in community integration as well as economic and social advancement of Southeast Asian refugees (primarily Hmong) in the Wausau-Marathon County area. Currently, this community has more than 9,000 Southeast Asian residents, making it the second largest and the highest per capita Southeast Asian population in Wisconsin.
HAC is governed by a volunteered Board of Directors representing the Southeast Asian residents and the large community. HAC has grown from an all volunteer entity into a multifaceted community agency and is one of the largest Hmong Mutual Assistance Associations (MAA) in the state of Wisconsin. The agency works collaboratively with local, state and national partners in addressing refugee and Southeast Asian issues. HAC has owned its office building since 1997.
